Guided by the vision of their expert editors-in-chief, the AACR’s ten scientific journals provide a publication venue for discoveries that span the breadth and depth of basic, translational, clinical, and epidemiological cancer research.
Launched in 2019 under the leadership of editors-in-chief Riccardo Dalla-Favera, MD, FAACR, and Kenneth C. Anderson, MD, FAACR, Blood Cancer Discovery provides a vital publication forum for innovative basic, translational, and clinical research on all subtypes of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and associated diseases. In 2023, the journal received an inaugural impact factor of 11.4, an impressive rating that ranks the journal in the top 10% of journals in both the Hematology and Oncology categories, according to the latest Journal Citation Reports™ from Clarivate.
Published since 1941, Cancer Research is the longest-running AACR journal and is the second-most frequently cited cancer journal in the world—a position due in large part to its superior editorial leadership. In a year of editorial transition, the AACR gratefully acknowledges the contributions of the editors-in-chief who served the journal in 2023:
Dr. Dang also worked to transform the way in which science was discussed in the journal; he launched a commentary series to provide critical context for recent articles of impact, as well as a Controversy & Consensus section to highlight a range of perspectives on challenging topics in the field. He also promoted the advancement of early-career scientists by establishing the Cancer Research Early Career Award to highlight their work.
Dr. Dang’s vision and leadership further elevated the status of Cancer Research in the field; during his term of service, the journal posted the highest impact factor of its long and distinguished history.
An AACR member since 1995, Dr. Iacobuzio-Donahue has served as a program committee cochair for the AACR Annual Meeting 2021, and as the chair of the AACR Laboratory Research Awards Committee (2022–2023), the AACR-Bayer Research Grants Scientific Review Committee (2019-2020), and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Pathway to Leadership Grants Scientific Review Committee (2016–2017). As a member of the Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Sequencing Team, she was a joint recipient of the AACR Team Science Award in 2013.
During her first year as Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Iacobuzio-Donahue has worked to expand the scope of the journal. While maintaining the journal’s focus on basic science, she launched new sections in a wide range of topical areas—including Cancer Metabolism and Molecular Mechanisms, Computational Cancer Biology and Technology, and Convergence Science—and refreshed the Editorial Board to bring in new areas of expertise. Under her leadership, Cancer Research will continue to serve as the premier forum for the fundamental scientific discoveries that drive progress against cancer.
